memory git revert
so today a good host of donut james pumphrey left donut, and the other two jobe and jeremiah also left. donut has been my go to mindless entertainment for the last 3 years. great automotive channels that covers from vintage cars to maintaining modern fuel injected machines. although good for them making their own thing, donut will have a gargantuan hole to fill in. which means i have 2 more channels to subscribe, tbh i am skeptist i will stay a subscriber for james because his main thing is a comedy skit. which i don’t follow really.
there was a photo of an intern in donut
caught my attention, because of the lens the cameraman uses. this lens is an ultra wide probaly 10-22mm full frame. which takes me back. to facebook marketplace 😂
facebook marketplace is a gold fucking mine. as i was browsing through vast amount of m42 lenses, a vintage 24-100 lens caught my attention, then through a deep rabbit hole caught myself a nice 10-22 canon lens, with a metabonse adapter (ef to e mounts), yes i have sony, yeah sue me.
this particular lens held a core memory for me, way back 2016, i started my “videography” journey. i love (ultra)wide lenses, which imitates a gopro look with a punch (in details, dynamic range, colors, and distorsion), thus making my style of video.
i’ve been wanting a new lense for a while now, although my wishlist is a 85mm samyang lens with autofocus (it’s a fucking f/1.4, god forbid i use manual focus for those kind of focus depth). 10-22 lens takes me back really.
i remember one time at an event back in my college days, i took photo of a girl, she’s cute, and she asks for the photo to post on her tumblr. which she did. as i check out her tumblr she post a whole lot of ‘close friend in instagram’ material in it. one photo in particular was a scenery of surabaya city at night on her porch. then i look at the filename, it is a raw .heif file, in short term is apple compressed high quality photo from iphone camera, that has an exif metadata. this exif metadata is a big fucking hole on privacy because it stores everything: ios version, location, lens that is used (it is a pro series iphone), and THE FUCKING DIRECTION OF CAMERA ANGLED. fucking nightmare. as i check out her recent posts in 2023, the photo is still there, and the metadata is also still there. i can pinpoint where she works now, where does she lives while working. it’s fucking horrible. wanted to tell her, but why bother.
this is a kind reminder to strip every metadata of your photos if u wanted to post it for public. heck, even i strip every metadata of my backup files.
PS. i guess i’m gonna go for 24-70, 10-22 for a full frame is too much as i no longer enjoy shooting videos. gonna go on bike ride soon probly 29 august to bandung, i know it’s pretty close but i’m with some friends so this is a potential core memory for me. gotta gear up son.
